Petronije Šišo
Petronije Šišo (1770-1813) was a famous Zlatibor hajduk elder during the Serbian revolution and hero of the last Battle of Ravnje (Boj na Ravnju) where he was killed defending a redoubt against Hurshid Pasha's army that greatly outnumbered Karađorđe's 3,000-strong.[1]Two other brave revolutionaries died in the same battle, Zeka Buljubaša and Joksim Karamarković.
Before the First Serbian Uprising, he was an ordinary Zlatibor hajduk, and as soon as the uprising began, he joined the insurgents, and Miloš Obrenović, who was then the army commander for this area, awarded him the title of binbashi - one of the elders of the Zlatibor insurgents. The legend says that he was originally Šuljagić, from the village of Draglica near Zlatibor behind Tornik, but the Turks cut his hair, so he was called Šišo, and his descendants are still in this Zlatibor village of Draglica in the hamlet of Šišakovići. Šišovići (Šišo) are the founders of the village who immigrated from Morača in ancient times, they settled somewhere in Stari Vlah for the first time, and only after that, they went down to Lomnica. According to one legend, the village was called Lomnica and that such a name also exists in Stari Vlah. From this family hails the hero from the Serbian uprising, Petronija Šišo. [2]
In August 1813, on Zasavica in Mačva, he died together with 1,500 other Serbian defenders.
According to a Zlatibor legend, Šišo waited for a Turkish company in Dobri Potok and killed all but one of the Turks, whom he left to return to Nova Varoš, where the company came from and report that they were attacked and destroyed. When the Turkish soldier arrived, he said: "That Šišo was waiting for us in the shitty Potok and killed everyone!". Since then, Dobri Potok carries the name Posrani Potok in the Zlatibor village of Draglica.
A theatrical play, written by Branislav Nušić in 1924 entitled Knez Ivo od Semberija, featured most prominent Serbian revolutionaries, including Petronije Šišo.[3]
