Petter Hörnfeldt.[1] (born September 22, 1981) is a Swedish Training Captain, Type Rating Instructor (TRI) and Type Rating Examiner (TRE) on the Boeing 737-800 for a major European airline. He is the creator and producer of Mentour Pilot, a video series on his YouTube channel with the same name, which he launched in 2015. He has since expanded the Mentour Pilot brand with a phone app and a website, and co-created the Airline Pilot Club (APC)[2], which provides information and support for aspiring new pilots[3]
Background[edit]
Hörnfeldt decided to pursue a pilot career when he got a flight lesson as his 14th birthday gift[4]. He completed his flight training in Sweden, benefiting from a government-sponsored aviation program. He was hired by a major European airline very soon after getting his license. He has been working for the same airline since.
YouTube Channel[edit]
Hörnfeldt has said that he started the Mentour Pilot YouTube channel after getting a lot of aviation-related questions from family and friends. He was then frustrated to see that there weren't many places on-line where people could go and ask these questions.[5] So in 2015 he started making short, in-person videos as "Mentour Pilot", with each video answering one of these questions.
Mentour Pilot is now one of YouTube's most popular aviation-themed channels, with over 800,000 subscribers, as of September 2021. In addition to answering common aviation questions, the channel has now evolved to feature in-depth analyses on both popular and lesser-known aviation accidents and incidents. Recent examples include Air France Flight 4590 and British Midlands Flight 92. There are also videos on aviation-related viral topics in social media.
Personal Life[edit]
Petter Hörnfeldt lives in Girona in northern Catalonia, Spain, with his two sons and his wife, Sandra.[5]
