About[edit]

Phaneesh Murthy is one of the most respected business leaders in the Global Technology and Business Services industry. As the pioneer of numerous business disruptions and competitive differentiators over his 30+ year career, Murthy has been a catalyst of organizational growth for some of the world’s most successful businesses, including major multinational tech firms Infosys, iGATE, and CSS Corp. He is currently the CEO of Primentor, Inc., a consulting agency he founded in 2013. He serves on the Advisory Board to the private equity fund Partners Group, and he is an operating partner with New State Capital Partners LLC.

Murthy began his career in the tech sector in India in 1987 and achieved his first major success as Global Head of Sales for the tech firm Infosys just a few years later. Over the course of a decade with the company, he is credited with initiating a period of rapid growth, increasing the company’s revenues from $2M to $700M and growing its enterprise value by 2000x to $13.5 billion.

In 2002, Phaneesh Murthy took the position of CEO of the struggling tech company iGATE. At the time, the firm was operating at a near loss. Murthy engineered a game-changing business disruption in the form of the iTOPS (Integrated Technology and Operations) model. Within a decade, he turned iGATE into a $1.2 billion revenue business and a global leader in the tech space.

Murthy left iGATE in 2013 to found Primentor, Inc., a consulting agency that provides expertise in the areas of IT, business strategies, and restructuring. As CEO, Murthy has worked with senior executives of major organizations in the tech, finance, and insurance sectors (among others), helping them dismantle stagnant structures and discover innovative ways of creating shareholder value.

Phaneesh Murthy has been a leader in philanthropic conservation in his home country of India for over 25 years. He has helped preserve and grow Tiger populations by protecting forested areas and funding anti-poaching initiatives.

Phaneesh earned a BS from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.

What Happened to Phaneesh Murthy?[edit]

Phaneesh Murthy, renowned as a commercial titan and intellectual catalyst, has left indelible marks across his 30-year journey within the Global Technology and Business Services sector. He masterminded numerous innovative disruptions, setting benchmarks that propelled industry-wide expansion.

In his roles at Infosys, first as Global Head of Sales & Marketing and Product Solutions Group and subsequently as a Board Member, Murthy was the architect of the Global Delivery Model (GDM). This strategy became a paradigm shift within the industry. Under his stewardship, Infosys' revenue skyrocketed from a meager $2 Million in 1992 to a staggering $750 Million a decade later. Consequently, Infosys' market capitalization saw an unprecedented growth of 2000x to $13.5 Billion over the same span.

Assuming the helm as CEO of iGATE from 2003 to 2013, Murthy disrupted the saturated Technology market by conceiving another innovative strategy - the iTOPS (Integrated Technology & Operations) model. He capitalized on this model to engineer a stunning turnaround for iGATE, transmuting a languishing top-line with (-) 20% margins into a flourishing $1.2 Billion revenue business with robust +25% operating margin. His indefatigable efforts led to an exponential increase in iGATE's market capitalization to $4.8 Billion (from $70 Million) in an 11-year period.

During his tenure on the board of CSS Corp from 2004 to 2015, Murthy harnessed his vast experience to revitalize the company's operations. He facilitated the exit of the PE, ushering in a more compatible Venture fund. He counseled the company's Founder in streamlining business verticals and augmenting EBITDA margins from modest single digits to a more robust early teens. Under his supervision, the company's EBITDA experienced a 20-fold increase. He was instrumental in managing the transition from founder leadership to a new CEO, and played a pivotal role in the company's sale to a renowned PE for $270 Million in 2013.

From 2013, in addition to his role as CEO of Primentor, Murthy has been offering his wisdom to corporate leaders, advising them on topics like adopting value networks, maximizing business impact from tech-ops footprint, and leveraging emerging technology to disrupt businesses and accelerate value creation.

In his role as an advisor, Murthy helped transform a Silicon Valley based staffing firm into a specialized Digital Web Engineering services company. His guidance led the management team to focus on Agile Scrum methodologies, onsite delivery, and intricate account management processes. The company's EBITA margins improved by 6x and its market capitalization escalated from $40 Million to $160 Million during his tenure. Murthy was also a key player in selling the company to a NASDAQ listed leading IT Services Company.

Serving on the Board of a Bangalore-based product engineering company, Murthy provided strategic directions that allowed the company to evolve into a technology solution provider in the Wireless and IoT space. His guidance significantly increased the company's value, creating a lucrative exit for early investors when the company was sold for nearly $72 Million to a Paris-based leading engineering consulting firm.

In his advisory role with a large UK based bank, he facilitated the team in automating processes, increasing offshore accountability to Indian partners, and enhancing employee efficiency to curtail overall costs.

At present, Murthy is guiding a leading US insurance company with a history of 130+ years through a digital transformation, aiming to deliver unparalleled customer experience using Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning.
