Phelan Davis (Born February 7th, 1999) is an American actor and independent filmmaker known for his breakout role as Skip Hoffman in the Netflix film "Metal Lords" (2022)[1] and his performance in the sci-fi short film "Unfamiliar Cosmos" (2020). Davis has also appeared in several TV shows, including "American Vandal" (2018). In 2022, he was recognized as a rising star in the industry by Screen Rant.
Early life[edit]
Davis was raised in San Francisco, California by parents who had no connection to the entertainment industry. Growing up, Davis was passionate about storytelling and would often act out scenes from his favorite movies and TV shows. He discovered his love for acting in high school and began taking extracurricular drama classes to improve his skills. After graduating from high school in 2017, Davis moved to Portland to pursue his acting and filmmaking career. Davis has since gone on to study Acting for Film at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London and Scene Study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.
Career[edit]
Davis began his acting career in 2016 and has since worked on several notable projects. He gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Skip Hoffman in the film "Metal Lords" directed by Peter Sollett.[1] The movie was released in 2022 and received critical acclaim for its portrayal of teenage metalheads. Davis’s performance was especially lauded for its authenticity and energy.
Aside from his acting work, Davis is also a filmmaker. He has produced several independent films, including the sci-fi short "Unfamiliar Cosmos" which won the Platinum Remi Award for Best Sci-fi Short at the WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival[2] in 2021. The film was well-received for its unique concept and exceptional special effects.
In 2021, Davis worked on the short film "Cori," where he played the role of John. The film was well-received for its sensitive portrayal of a young couple dealing with personal tragedy. Davis also played the role of Ares in "Unfamiliar Cosmos: Chapter 2" in 2023.
Davis’s other acting credits include "Greymatter," where he played the lead role, and "The Lumineers III," where he portrayed High School Bong Rips. He also appeared in the movie "First Cow" as Fort Trapper 5 in 2019.[3]
Davis has also made appearances in several TV series, including "American Vandal," where he played Nathaniel Boley in four episodes in 2018. In 2017, he played Hudson in an episode of "Portlandia" (S7 E10).[4]
