Phelps Dunbar LLP is a New Orleans-based law firm with more than 300 attorneys practicing out of 11 office locations in the Southern United States and in London. Marshall Redmon [1] serves as the firm's managing partner.

History[edit]

The firm was founded in New Orleans in 1853 [1] by Joseph Dirrhammer. The firm’s namesakes – Esmond Phelps and Charles Dunbar Jr. – joined the practice in 1912 and 1919, respectively.[2]

In 1943, the firm changed its names to Phelps, Dunbar, Marks & Claverie. A change in 1955 added the name of John W. Sims before the firm shortened its name to its current Phelps Dunbar. In 1987, Phelps expanded into the London market by opening an office at Lloyds of London. The firm’s only overseas office facilitates the work performed with the European Insurance Market.
