Phi Kappa Delta

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Phi Kappa Delta (commonly known as "PKD" or "the Phi Kapps") is a local sorority to Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, West Virginia. Chartered at the end of 1962 by the first president, Pat Patton, the sorority was founded on January 13th, 1963. Their first meeting was held on January 29th, 1963 in the Old Main Coffee Room located on the AB campus. Their motto from the beginning was, "You'll Never Walk Alone". AB encourages bonding in their Greek Life organizations and made Epsilon Tau Eta Sigma (active) and Phi Delta Sigma (no longer active) their brother fraternities.

The five purposes of Phi Kappa Delta is:

  • To serve our community with a sense of professionalism
  • To encourage academic achievement
  • To maintain and encourage high moral standards
  • To promote sisterhood with each prospective, active, inactive, and alumni sister
  • To engage in educational and social activities

These purposes were built on the foundation of wanting to honor the high ideals of womanhood, to develop a sense of purpose to give one direction to all actions and to seek perfection passionately. In searching for perfection, it will instill in the sisterhood wisdom to practice peace in their personal desires, and will help gain insight and foresight to guide them in the future. The colors of PKD are red and gray. The red stands for the flow of young girls who have grown into womanhood. Gray stands for their actions and their ways of life reflecting their honest inner selves.

The symbols and meanings of Phi Kappa Delta include:

  • Red - love, passion, health, and youth
  • Gray - a shiny substance that reflects all the colors of the rainbow
  • Rose - perfection, romance, elegance, and love
  • Rainbow - all the good found in life's experiences
  • Shield - sisterhood and unity
  • Teardrop - all of life's joys and sorrows
