Philip Bump

Philip Bump (born June 23, 1975) is an American journalist. A columnist for The Washington Post since 2014, Bump previously covered politics for The Atlantic Wire and wrote for the environmental magazine Grist.

Bump was born in Rochester, New York, and his family later moved to Howland, Ohio. He graduated from Howland High School in 1992 before attending Ohio State University on a full academic scholarship. Prior to his career as a journalist, Bump joined City Year shortly after college, then spent several years at Adobe Systems as a designer. He worked for the labor movement in San Jose before consulting in New York.

Bump's book The Aftermath: The Last Days of the Baby Boom and the Future of Power in America was published in January 2023.
