Philippa Georgiou is a fictional recurring character from the American science fiction television series Star Trek: Discovery portrayed by Michelle Yeoh. Introduced in the first season as the captain of the USS Shenzhou,[1] Georgiou is killed off in the second episode, "Battle at the Binary Stars", by the Klingon warrior T'Kuvma. Later in the season, after the USS Discovery uses their spore drive to transport into the Mirror Universe, the version of her character from that world is revealed to be the emperor of the Terrain Empire, given the full title "Mother of the Fatherland, Overlord of Vulcan, Dominus of Qo'nos, Regina Andor, Philippa Georgiou Augustus Iaponius Centaurius".
Yeoh reprised her role as Philippa Georgiou in the spin-off series Star Trek: Short Treks in the episode "The Brightest Star", which serves as a prequel to Discovery, as well as in the upcoming Star Trek: Section 31 television series, which stars Yeoh after her character was written off the series in the season 3 episode "Terra Firma".

In the two-part episode "Terra Firma", Hugh Culber learns from Kovich that because Georgiou is very far from her original time and universe, her molecules have begun to decay. Burnham and Georgiou travel to the surface of a nearby planet Dannus V to find a possible form of survival for the latter. On the planet, they meet an old man who claims to be named Carl. He shows Georgiou a newspaper from the future saying that she has died and sends her through a portal, where she finds herself in the Mirror Universe. She begins to resume her life in the Mirror Universe, once again taking up the mantle of emperor of the Terran Empire. She finds that he time in the Prime Universe has changed her, and begins to make different choices that she did the first time around, including befriending the Saru of that universe, who is a slave.
In the second part, Georgiou realizes her Burnham, who she has treated like a daughter, has been plotting against her. She traps her, then tortures her until she pledges her allegiance to the Empire. Burnham eventually resolves to rejoin Georgiou at her side, revealing all the other crewmembers on the ship who are traitors. They begins to search for Gabriel Lorca, but when they beam down to a planet below, Burnham reveals her true colors and fatally wounds Burnham, though she is rescued by Saru and the other Kelpiens, who she helped through Vahar'ai, and dies by their side. She reappears with Burnham Prime, and Carl reveals himself as the mystical Guardian of Forever. He sends Georgiou, after saying goodbye to Burnham, through another portal, which leads to a time and space in which she can survive, and she begins her next adventure.
Star Trek: Short Treks[edit]
On the planet Kaminar, Saru wants to learn about life outside the pre-warp society of his village, where his people are harvested as food by the predatory Ba'ul. Saru is able to send a distress signal into space that is answered by Lieutenant Philippa Georgiou, who takes Saru to join Starfleet.
Star Trek: Section 31[edit]
