Philippe Pasqua ([paskwa]; born 15 June 1965) is a French artist. He is mostly known for his skull sculptures.
Biography[edit]
Philippe Pasqua was born in Grasse, in the south of France, but, at the age of 10, he went to Paris. He began painting near the age of 20. In 1985, he settled in New York City, in the United States. He ran his first exhibition in 1990. Between 1995 and 1997, he produced 1,000 artworks. In 2006, one of the richest art collectors, Jose Mugrabi bought him a hundred artworks. In the 2000s, he mainly painted monumental portraits of faces of real people of all types, from transexuals to cancer patients, from people with Down syndrome to people with bruised face. Then, he made a series of skulls, covered in butterflies. In 2012-2013, he exhibited some skulls in Paris with Damien Hirst, whose work he has been said to copy. He now creates monumental sculptures, which he exhibited in the Oceanographic Museum, in Monaco, raising awareness about marine animals, or in the château de Chamarande.
