Phleg Camp were a Canadian indie rock band from Thornill, Ontario. The band consists of Eric Chenaux, Gavin Brown and Sean Dean. They became an important act in the early 1990s indie scene in Toronto and southern Ontario

Background[edit]

Phleg Camp were formed in the late 1980s by three classmates at Thornlea Secondary School, north of Toronto. Influenced by top indie acts of the days including The Jesus Lizard and Fugazi, Phleg Camp developed an aggressive, experimental sound that may them a popular live act at the emerging Toronto indie scene of the early 1990s.

The band released a number of singles and EP during their existence, in addition to a single full-length. That album (1993's Ya'red Fair Scratch) was produced by Steve Albini and sought to capture the fury of the band's stage show in studio.[1]. The album was released on Cargo Records (Canada) and became a minor hit on campus radio stations in Canada.

Gavin Brown went on to be a successful music producer, woking with top artists including Metric (band), Big Sugar, Hayden (musician), Sarah Harmer, the Tragically Hip and Barenaked Ladies.[2].

Sean Dean joined rock and roll / country and western band The Sadies, recording and touring plus collaborating with artists including Neko Case, Gord Downie and Blue Rodeo.

Eric Chenaux relased solo material via Constellation Records (Canada) and worked with artists such as Crash Vegas.[3]
