Phoca Cart is an open source project, e-commerce software which runs in Joomla! CMS. It is programmed in PHP and Javascript. It runs on web server with enabled PHP support and installed Joomla!. It includes component, modules and plugins. Phoca Cart stores data in MySQL or MariaDB relational database. It applies the conventions of object-oriented programming and model–view–controller architecture.
Phoca Cart is standard Joomla! extension and it can be extended by plugins and modules. Phoca Cart can be extended by:
- Modules (cart, category, product, currency, filter, search, wish list, comparison, ...)
- Plugins (payment, shipping and custom plugins)
- Joomla! extensions (PDF documents created by Phoca PDF extension)
- Templates (standard Joomla! templates).[1]

Phoca Cart 3.5.4 is the current release of Phoca Cart. It is directly written for Joomla 3. Phoca Cart 3.1.7 was released on October 30, 2020.[3]
Phoca Cart 3 is the previous release of Phoca Cart. It is directly written for Joomla 3. Phoca Cart 3.1.7 was released on February 10, 2019.[4]
Phoca Cart project was started in 2013 by project founder and leader Jan Pavelka and on April 19, 2014 the first development version - 3.0.0 Alpha 1 has been released.[5]

Phoca Cart allows to add unlimited number of products, categories, manufactureres, payment and shipping methods. Products can be assigned to multiple categories.[6]
Phoca Cart is an open-source e-commerce solution written in PHP. This means that the source code is open and it can be directly customized for user's needs. It is fully integrated into Joomla! so main Joomla! features like template overrides can be used in Phoca Cart too.
Phoca Cart is a complex shopping cart, built on Joomla! and its framework. It is fully integrated with the latest Joomla! series (no bridge, no unnecessary code instructions for obsolete Joomla! versions). And it is designed with the Bootstrap library. This means that the e-commerce solution built on Phoca Cart will include responsive design and will be displayed on all devices like desktops, notebooks, mobile phones or tablets. With help of Phoca Cart vendors can sell real products or digital downloads. Phoca Cart can be also used as catalogue, gallery or download extension.[7]
