Influences[edit]

Melville has said his work is more similar in many respects to that of European filmmakers than American ones, and that most films that " transform the individuals psyche" are by European directors. He has expressed his admiration for such filmmakers as Federico Fellini, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, and Wim Wenders, along with Terrence Malick. He has said that Wender's Wings of Desire( 1987) is one of his favorite pictures, he stated:" I saw it the first time at the age 8 and formed my whole following image of perceiving reality until today. A beautiful masterpiece and a proof to me how long a work of art can stay in your soul and transform your spirit into a heightened state of vibration." He has also cited Jean Pierre Jeunet's Amélie (2001) as influence on his work, declaring "I can’t even get the right words to express this wonder and magic of a moving image. Perfectly crafted – a symbol of hope for all dreamers out there." Visible influences in his films are Terrence Malick and Andrei Tarkovsky, latter Melville is often compared too by critics.[3]
