Pierluigi Basile (born 7 January 2007) is an Italian tennis player. He has a career-high ATP singles ranking of No. 557 achieved on 16 June 2025 and a doubles ranking of No. 967 achieved on 18 August 2025.

Early life

Basile was born and raised in Martina Franca, Apulia.[1] His father is a surveyor and his mother is an elementary school teacher. He is an only child.[2] He began playing tennis at Sporting Club Martina Franca.[3] At the age of 14, he moved to Foligno for training.[1][2]

Junior career

He won two J60 titles in June 2023. In Larnaca, he defeated compatriot Lorenzo Comino in the final.[4] In Carthage, he defeated top seed Alaa Trifi in the final.[5][6] He also reached the final of the J60 Kelibia that month, but lost to Ahmed Monsef.[7]

In January 2025, he made his Junior Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open, where he reached the third round in singles.[8] In April, he reached the final of the J300 tournament in Plovdiv, but lost to Alexander Vasilev.[9]

Professional career

In August 2024, at the age of 17, he made his ATP Challenger Tour debut after qualifying for the for the Internazionali di Tennis Città di Todi, and defeated compatriot Gabriele Pennaforti in the first round.[3][10] That November, he reached his first professional final at the M15 Open Internacional in Alcalá de Henares, but lost to Tom Paris.[11]

In May 2025, he received a wildcard into the qualifying competition of the Italian Open, but lost in the first round to Thiago Seyboth Wild.[12][13] The following month, he reached the semifinals of the Internazionali di Tennis Città di Perugia as a qualifier.[14]
