Pierre-Elie du Faur de Pibrac, known as Pierre-Elie de Pibrac, is a French plastic photographer born in Paris on June 20, 1983. He is the descendant of Guy du Faur de Pibrac, poet, magistrate and French diplomat, and the grandson of the photographer Paul de Cordon. He is distributed by Agence Vu'.[1].

Biography

Pierre-Elie de Pibrac developed a passion for photography very early, notably through the work of his grandfather Paul de Cordon[2]. It was in 2005, during a trip to New York, that Pierre-Elie de Pibrac decided to make it his profession[3]. Self-taught, after graduating from EDHEC Business School[4] in 2009, he learned photography in books, in the field, or by assisting great photographers such as Denis Darzacq, Claudine Doury and Rip Hopkins. In 2018, with his series Desmemoria, he won the Prix Levallois for Young Contemporary Creation under the sponsorship of the French photographer Valérie Jouve[5]. In 2020, he won the HIP Prize for his book Desmemoria edited by Xavier Barral[6]. In 2021, he won the prestigious Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize of the National Portrait Gallery with his Japanese project entitled Hakanai Sonzai[7].

Series and Exhibitions

  • 2021: Hakanai Sonzai, the series for which Pierre-Elie de Pibrac was a laureate of the prestigious Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize of the National Portrait Gallery[8], and was exhibited at Cromwell Place[9] in London in 2021.
  • 2021: Silenciar, RLSH and NYC Subway Stories, which were his first NFTs, crypto-works on the blockchain, presented at the galerie Achetez de l'Art[10].
  • 2021: In Lumine, created for the Planche(s) Contact Festival[11] in Deauville and the Photo4Food foundation. This project was exhibited on Deauville beach in very large formats and at the Franciscaines[12].
  • 2018: Desmemoria, which won the Levallois Prize for Young Contemporary Creation[13]. This project was exhibited among others at the Galerie de l'Escale in Levallois[14], at the Night of the Photo of La Chaux-de-Fonds alongside the photographs of Agnès Varda[15], at the Galerie Le Réverbère in Lyon[16], at the Rencontres d'Arles[17], at the Image Satellite Festival in Nice[18], at the Espace Dupon Phidap in Paris[19] and at the Musée du Nouveau Monde in La Rochelle[20].
  • 2014: In Situ - Behind the scenes of the Paris Opera, which was exhibited, among others, in Paris (Galerie Clémentine de la Féronnière and H Gallery)[21] in Paris Photo Paris and Paris Photo Los Angeles, in Zona Maco Mexico but also at the Art Lexing gallery in Miami[22], at the Casa Victor Hugo in Havana in Cuba[23], at the prestigious Chanel NeXus Hall in Tokyo[24] and at the Kyotographie Festival[25].
  • 2012: Real Life Super Heroes which was exhibited in Paris, Lille, Rouen, in various festivals, and under the Nave of the Grand Palais during the Echappée Belle exhibition in 2013. These numerous exhibitions and the strong media coverage of his project have contributed to making the “RLSH” movement known in France.
  • 2010: American Showcase, which was exhibited in Paris at La Galerie d'En Face[26], Paris Show Off and Cutlog, in Metz (Art Metz), in Lille (Lille Art Fair), in Toulouse (the MAP Festival) and in Geneva. This series was also exhibited at the Affordable Art Fair in Brussels in 2012.
  • 2007: The Forgotten Children of Burma, which won the Student Paris Match Grand Prix for Photography and the Orange Prize for Photography[27].

Books

  • 2019: Desmemoria, published by Editions Xavier Barral. A text by Cuban writer Zoé Valdés and a drawing by Cuban artist Alejandro Campins accompany the photographs. This book won the 2020 HIP Prize[28]
  • 2014: In Situ - behind the scenes of the Paris Opera, published in October 2014 by Editions Clémentine de la Féronnière. This book of 250 photographs is enriched with numerous testimonies including those of great dance personalities such as Nicolas Le Riche, Aurélie Dupont, Eleonora Abbagnato, Isabelle Ciaravola, Amandine Albisson, Brigitte Lefèvre and Benjamin Millepied but also of the manager of the Palais Garnier, Gilles Djéraouane.
  • 2012: Real Life Super Heroes, published by PapelArt - Serious Publishing. Texts by Xavier Fournier, Éric Maigret and Stephan Levy-Kuentz accompany the photographs.
  • 2010: American Showcase, edited by Archibooks. Texts by Floriane de Lassée and Carmen Chaplin accompany the photographs[29]
