History
Pinch Spice Market was founded in 2012 by Thomas McGee and Mike Mueller originally as a retail store...[1][2] at 1913 N. Milwaukee Street, Chicago, IL 60622[3] in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago. It closed its retail shop on December 26, 2013, to move away from brick and mortar and focus more on farmers markets and online sales, with local bike delivery[4]
In 2016, founder Mike Mueller left the company to pursue other interests, and Thomas McGee became the sole owner and operator. In 2018, the company acquired a trademark from the United States Trademark and Patent Office for its name and logo design[5]. In 2018, Thomas’s life partner, Meaghan Thomas, became co-owner[6] and the company shifted to online sales only.
In October 2018, the couple and company moved to Louisville, Kentucky. Despite the global COVID-19 pandemic and the company’s online shopping business being affected by national USPS shipping delays in July 2020[7] and again in November and December 2020[8], it was still able to experience record growth[9] and was featured in Authority Magazine’s series “5 Things You Need To Create a Successful Food Line or Specialty Food[10].
In 2021, the company built what they claim is the World's First Spice Vending Machine[11], which sits outside their spice factory and was mentioned as a COVID-related addition in an Associated Press article[12].
The company has been highlighted on MSN.com[13], Today.com[14], Huffington Post[15], among other major national publications.
