Pipe Major John McLellan DCM (8 August 1875 – 31 July 31 1949) was a Scottish piper, music composer and poet who wrote more than 160 tunes and songs. He was also one of the few composers who often wrote lyrics to his tunes.[citation needed] Although he never released a songbook of his compositions during his lifetime, he did contribute his work to other reputable music collections, ie: "The Cowal Collection'. His most popular composition was ‘Road to the Isles,’ a song which when he first wrote it, was titled ‘The Bens of Jura’ and later ‘The Burning Sands of Egypt’.[citation needed]
