Piper Theatre Productions established in 2000, Piper Theatre Productions is a 501 (c)(3)[1] not for profit theatre company created by siblings, Rachel McEneny and John P. McEneny, children of John "Jack" McEneny It's mission is dedicated to producing innovative and dynamic theater by and for all inspiring and educating hundreds of young people through theatre, providing opportunities for emerging artists to showcase their talent[2]

History[edit]

2000 - 2005 Piper performed at Untermeyer Park in Yonkers, NY, Yonkers Riverfront Library, and the Westchester towns of Mamakating and Irvington.[3]

2006 - Current Piper is in residence at the historic Old Stone House in Washington Park, Brooklyn.[3]

Core Programs[edit]

Education (ages 7 - 17)[edit]

Produces four youth productions in an after school setting at the Old Stone House, as well as July workshops that expand to 175 children and include full scale musicals, adventure plays, puppetry and Shakespeare. Workshops are taught by experienced theater educators with a pedagogy of ensemble building, process oriented work, and the physical theater of Grotowski. The Piper board raises over $30,000 annually for scholarships.

Emerging Artists Program[edit]

Concentrates on developing new plays and playwrights through the Plays In Process (PIP) which meets with actors, playwrights and directors monthly to read new work. Piper features four public staged readings each year.

Free Professional Mainstage Productions[edit]

Piper produces professional shows that are accessible and free to our community -- both on a large scale outdoors at Brooklyn’s Old Stone House & Washington Park in July, and indoors at various locales throughout the year. In the past ten years, we have produced mainstage musicals including Sweeney Todd[4] [5], Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Xanadu [6] [7], The Brontes, The Book of Liz[8], Macbeth, Hamlet, Midsummer, The Lincoln Dress, and Wendy Darling. Piper has developed three original physical theater productions and toured them overseas: Splitfoot, written by John P. McEneny and Vasile Flutur, and Island of Doctor Moreau (winner of the Five Star Bobbie Award) at Edinburgh C Venues, and We Should Have Seen the Lights Already by Matei Visniec in Bucharest at Un Teatru. Pricilla Queen of the Desert and Psycho Beach Party. Piper was the first company to produce Nocturnes by John Connelly [9].
