Plastpro

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Plastpro is a manufacturer and provider of fiberglass doors and millwork products. Plastpro was founded in 1994 and is now headquartered in Los Angeles, CA. The majority of Plastpro products are manufactured at its plant in Ashtabula, Ohio. The company operates 20 additional plants in 15 states[1] including Georgia and California.[2] In addition to the United States, Plastpro also distributes product internationally to Canada.

History

Plastpro, founded in 1994, began by distributing fiberglass doors imported from Taiwanese manufacturer Nan Ya Plastics (a sister company of Formosa Plastics Group). Plastpro later introduced new designs targeted specifically to the U.S. market.

In 2005, Plastpro opened its largest US plant in Ashtabula, OH.[3] As of November 2020, the plant is 300,000 sq. ft in size.

In 2008, Plastpro’s corporate headquarters were relocated from Livingston, New Jersey to Los Angeles, CA.

Products

Plastpro manufactures fiberglass doors and accessories for both the residential and commercial markets, specializing in aesthetic treatments replicating the look of wood. Fiberglass doors are made from glass-reinforced polymers, preventing the rotting, shrinking, and swelling challenges associated with traditional wood materials, and provide better protection from insects, fire, and the elements. Additionally, the material allows Plastpro’s products to meet safety and performance standards for specialized products such as Fire Rated Doors and High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) Impact Doors.

Technology

Plastpro’s fiberglass doors have unique HydroShield technology, which means they are fully composite on all six sides.[4] The door’s components are reinforced door skins, full-length composite stiles, composite top and bottom rails, a full-length lock block, and a polyurethane foam core. This creates an impenetrable, fully weatherproof system, when paired with Plastpro’s proprietary composite Polyfiber Frame introduced in 2007 and composed of a mix of composite material and wood flour.

Charitable Activities

Plastpro has a history of charitable donations to diverse nonprofits, such as Harvard Westlake School, Glenbeigh Development, The Los Angeles Police Foundation, The Asia Society, The Anti-Defamation League, and several churches.

Plastpro has partnered with Habitat for Humanity, with more than 500 doors donated to various chapters to date. Plastpro has also contributed to HomeAid Orange County’s Precious Life Shelter, providing materials for a shelter to serve homeless, pregnant women.

Plastpro also prioritizes local donations, near the Los Angeles, CA headquarters and the Plastpro plant in Ashtabula, OH. Plastpro donated protective surgical masks to both communities during COVID-19, in total donating 1,400 masks to 11 facilities in Ashtabula County.[5] Plastpro CEO Shirley Wang and her husband Walter also donated clear polyester film to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the Innovation Lab at the University of California, Los Angeles, allowing the creation of 54,000 face shields to protect healthcare workers and researchers.[6]

Shirley Wang and her husband Walter have also founded The Walter and Shirley Wang Foundation, focusing philanthropic efforts on diverse needs, such as Chinese-American advocacy, education, healthcare, providing clean water to developing countries, and legal justice for immigrants.[7]

Recognition

Plastpro has won numerous awards for their products including BUILDERnews Magazine’s Best Products of 2009[8] and Window and Door’s Top 100 Manufacturers in 2014[9], 2017[10], and 2018.[11]

Ohio Governor Bob Taft recognized Walter Wang, Chairman of Plastpro, for choosing Ashtabula County for its first facility in the United States and his contribution to the local economy.[12]
