Playstation Access Winner Plays On
On April 4, 2022, Playstation Access[1] began a new "Let's Play" series, called "Winner Plays On", which focused on crowning the best player on the team, David S. Jackson (also known as The One and Only True Ruler) as its first winner after successfully destroying his fellow friends (and colleagues) at Stikbold. The challenge may appear at any time or moment, and the contender must win a set of hurdles before earning the right to be the new King of the Access team.
History
Little is known about the true origins of the challenge itself, with some scholars theorizing that it was due to Rosie Caddick being the most competitive member of the Access team, or if Robert Pearson (the less savvy alias of Rob S. Pearson) kept gloating his thunderous and impossible win in Frozen Run making David Jackson prompt to start the Kingship trials.
On April 4, 2022, Mr. Jackson had the honor to adorn his head with a powerful crown after defeating his peers at Stikbold - some still say the Rosie-Ash-David alliance took the title from Mr. Pearson's head - and become the first rightful ruler of the "Playstation Access Winner Plays On"[2]
Format and rules
What are the rules of the "Winner Plays On"? It depends on the challenge set by the Playstation Access team or community, with the people having the power to choose who the King faces every time. Normally, each challenge has three rounds, and the winner is found after concluding these steps, as seen against Ash Millman (Guitar Hero 3) or Robert Pearson (Grand Turismo 7).
Challenges
David S. Jackson (crown holder) vs Robert Pearson - Grand Turismo 7
On April 21, Robert Pearson was picked by the community to challenge The benign ruler, David S. Jackson, to a Grand Turismo 7 grudge match, with King and (angry, so angry) contender to face three challenges. The first one was a series of three races, that almost blew up Robert's cheeks when the One and Only True Ruler made a slight mistake on a curve, but Mr. Jackson was able to score the first points; the second challenge, the King was victorious after showcasing the most sublime technique to defeat Mr. Pearson's good run on a three-way ability challenge.[3]
David S. Jackson (crown holder) vs Ash Millman - Guitar Hero 3
On the 12th of May, Ash Millman was drafted to be the wretched challenger to try to steal David Jackson's magnifique crown, in a superb Guitar Hero 3 Showdown. Awesome lyrics were destroyed, leathery straps were donned and air guitars were rocked in a brutal challenge that featured Bulls on Parade, My Curse, Welcome to The Jungle, and many more fine tunes, set in a three-way challenge: Access Setlist; Community Jukebox; and Blazing Finale. As ever, the One and Only True Ruler preserved his beautiful crown by strumming awesomely away on the (fake) guitar, although Ms. Millman came close to tying the Challenge, falling short of 1000 points in the last tune played.[4]
Some special feats were achieved: David S. Jackson was able to score a 245 streak in Slipknot's "Before I Forget"; both contestants showed why they can never be lead singers (or choir) in a band; Ash Millman scored an impressive 95% in Gun N' Roses "Welcome to the Jungle".
David S. Jackson (crown holder) vs Rosie Caddick - Worms Warfare
On the October 6, Rosie Caddick was summoned to face The Benign and Masterful Ruler, David S. Jackson, in a Worms Warfare duel. Without much caring for their soldiers, the King, and the contender placed their best strategy hats on (more of an old dusty cap with holes) and moved the little worm critters around, to see who could best each other out... David S. Jackson was able to get first blood but was completely overpowered by Lady Caddick of the Bikini Land in the 2nd and 3rd matches. With the (broken) Crown at stake, the Champion rose back, won the 4th encounter, and forced it all to a supreme deathmatch.
With sweaty palms (and arms, chests, legs, well really the whole body, as they cramped themselves inside some silly sleepy bags) and a nervous ambiance taking the stage, the two duelists fought for the crown with everything they got, mumbling strange noises of pain throughout the final match! In the end, David S. Jackson kept his firm hold on the crown thanks to a very devious strategy, as he let one of his two last slimy soldiers meet the Grim Reaper, so he could get in his hands "in the last row". Without any remorse or pity on sight, the (not so) Benign Ruler made quick way and disposed of Rosie Caddick's last soldiers to keep the crown to himself.[5]
David S. Jackson (crown holder) vs Robert Pearson - Crash Bandicoot | Spyro the Dragon | Crash Bandicoot 3
On the 16th day of January, Robert S. Pearson, formerly known as the Mazer Ruler (evicted from that cargo after being overrun by three jolly friends) poised a new challenge to the benign and rightful monarch of the Playstation Access World, David S. Jackson, comprised of three sub-challenges, namely: a race until the 1st boss of Crash Bandicoot 1, Papu Papu; collect the maximum possible of crystals in Spyro 1; and, finally, a race until the 1st boss of Crash Bandicoot 3 "Warped", Tiny Tiger. A grueling and treasonous challenge, created by Alex Young (Playstation Access Social Media and Community Manager), the Masterful and cool Ruler, David S. Jackson, smiled upon his people and accepted it without thinking about losing.
In the 1st challenge, Robert S. Pearson had a small advantage in the beginning, but David S. Jackson quickly turned around and made way until he reached and swiftly defeated Papu Papu, by just being "good at it". For the 2nd challenge, the challenger gave a masterclass in Spyro and made the Playstation Access monarch question if he could do it, as he lost by a difference of almost 400 crystals (a seriously spectacular display by Robert); and, for the amazing conclusion of the first Winner Plays On of 2023, we had a drama in three takes!
First, David S. Jackson forgot to collect the purple crystal, and Robert S. Pearson, in a show of the utmost incredible chivalry, waited for the King to go get it; then, on the 3rd stage of the first level of Crash Bandicoot "Warped", Robert S. Pearson domesticated a child tiger, and overcame the chasms and foes in that racing level... but, as expected by the folk, David really did a very, very, very, lousy job in it, and it seemed Rob was on the quick lane to snatch that (crooked) crown. Alas, as he did on the 2022 Christmas Maze, dear Robert S. Pearson mucked it up and slipped on the following two levels, giving a small glimpse of hope to the rightful king, who overcame quickly the menacing Triceratops, and walked in water like he was Aquaman on steroids. In the heated boss level, we saw what the old masters would refer to as "A whooping", as David overcame every lion to put Tiny Tiger finally served on a hot platter to Robert S. Pearson (mainly, Alex) to eat it.[6]
David S. Jackson (crown holder) vs Ash Millman (winner) - Dig Dug
On the 6th of February 2023, a new champion was crowned, as Ash Millman ascended to Queenship after defeating (did she though?) the former benign and just ruler, David S. Jackson. The challenge was simple: the one who won the platinum on Dig Dug would take the crown home. But, Dave Jackson, in a moment of ignorance, decided that the one who scored more points would be the winner, which prompted the beginning of the end of a gold and sunny era...
The Dig Dug challenge took more than 90 minutes, with Dave Jackson scoring the first high score of the day, before being overtaken finally by the challenger... from 35,220 points to 40,870, Ash "The Wretched" Millman roared and gloated for most of the show, breaking Mr. Jackson's spirit put an end to his reign.
The King is Defeated, Long Live the Queen... may this new Era of Darkness cover all of the lands, and undermine everyone's dreams and happiness, while Queen Millman eats the joyous tears of the former monarch.[7]
Reigns
Since the beginning of April 2022, David S. Jackson was crowned as the first The One and Only True Ruler from the Playstation Access Team, and have already defeated challenges from Robert Pearson and Ash Millman in the following weeks, and is still the undisputed champion.
As of February 6, Ash Millman took the crown for herself after taking David S. Jackson down in a gruelling and almost ridiculous Dig Dug challenge. A new (dark, very dark) era starts.
| No. | Champion | Date | Event | Reign | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | David S. Jackson | April 4, 2022 | Stikbold Challenge | 308 days | David S. Jackson was able to defeat Ash Millman, Robert Pearson, and Rosie Caddick in a five-round of Stikbold. The first-ever champion scored 9 points, while his peers only were able to earn a measly bunch of 5 (Pearson) and 4 (Millman and Caddick) |
| 2 | Ashley Millman | February 6, 2023 | Dig Dug | 4 days | Ash Millman defeated the undisputed king David S. Jackson in a Dig Dug Challenge. Ash, with no cheating whatsoever, earned 40,870 points after one hour and a half. No platinum though |
