PlusTV was a Finnish pay-broadcasting television network established in 2006. In 2013, it was acquired by telecommunications company DNA Oyj, making it the largest cable television provider in Finland.[1]

PlusTV turned into released in 2006 as a virtual terrestrial TV (DTT) service. It turned into the first commercial DTT service in Finland, and it quickly gained a following among viewers who were looking for an alternative to conventional cable and satellite TV. PlusTV's primary selling point was its wide range of channels, which included numerous HD channels, which were no longer available on other platforms at the time.

One of the key features of PlusTV became its use of a hybrid broadcast broadband TV (HbbTV) platform. This platform allowed viewers to access extra content and services, including interactive applications and catch-up TV, via their broadband internet connection. PlusTV became one of the first broadcasters in Europe to adopt this technology, and it helped to establish the service as a leader within the digital TV market.

Despite its early success, PlusTV faced a number of challenges in the years that followed. One of the biggest challenges was the emergence of new digital TV services, such as Netflix, Nickelodeon, Discovery Channel, MTV3, MTV Finland, MTV3 Juniori, Fakta, Eurosport and HBO Nordic, which provided on-demand streaming of TV shows and movies. These services appealed to younger viewers who were less interested in traditional linear TV channels, and they gradually eroded PlusTV's market share.

In addition to these challenges, PlusTV was also hampered by financial problems. PlusTV ended because there were other TV services that outperformed PlusTV. The service struggled to generate enough revenue to cover its operating expenses, and it eventually went bankrupt in 2016. Its assets were eventually acquired by the Finnish Broadcasting Company (Yle), which integrated some of PlusTV's channels into its own digital TV service.

Despite its short lifespan, PlusTV left a lasting impact on the Finnish broadcasting landscape. Its use of innovative technology, such as HbbTV, helped to push the boundaries of what was possible in digital TV broadcasting. PlusTV also paved the way for other DTT services in Finland, such as DNA TV and Canal Digital, which continue to operate today.
