Plush is an American, all female, rock band from Latham, New York. The band currently consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Moriah Formica, lead guitarist Bella Perron, bassist Ashley Suppa, and drummer Faith Powell[3]. The band formed in 2021 and is currently signed to Pavement entertainment.[4]

History[edit]

Formation and Self Titled Debut Album[edit]

Plush formed in the Albany, New York suburb of Latham in January 2021 by singer/guitarist Moriah Formica, bassist Ashley Suppa, and drummer Brooke Colluci. Lead guitarist Bella Perron joined later that month after being introduced to Moriah Formica by Halestorm lead vocalist Lzzy Hale after answering an ad on Instagram about the band searching for a guitar player[5]. Moriah Formica had been a previous contestant on Season 13 of The Voice[6],[7], as well as having made it to Hollywood Week 3 in American Idol (season 17)[8]. The band released their debut single Hate on February 10, 2021. Formica stated that the inspiration of the song came from "somebody who broke my heart in a very bad way. I was just so angry and sad, but I couldn't bring myself to say 'I hated you' to that person, because the truth is, I really, really loved that person, and I just hated that I loved them".[9] Following the success of 'Hate' climbing up to #24 on the Billboard mainstream Rock Charts the band played their first live show on July 31, 2021, at the Grave Pavilion in Kettering, Ohio opening for Daughtry on the first night of both bands tour.[10]. The band spent much of the rest of 2021 opening for bands such as Evanescense and Halestorm. The bands self titled debut album Plush was released on October 29, 2021 and was produced by Johnny K who has also worked with acts such as Disturbed, Staind, and 3 Doors Down.[11] Following their album release party in Albany on February 11, 2022, the band would go on to release the singles Better Off Alone and Will Not Win from their debut album. Original drummer Brooke Colucci departed the band on August 16, 2022, [12] and was later replaced by Faith Powell. Following Colucci's departure the band opened up for Breaking Benjamin, Alice In Chains, and Bush on a tour that lasted between September and October of 2022.

Second Studio Album[edit]

In February 2023 the band began recording the follow up to their self titled debut album. The first single from the album "Left Behind" was released on April 26, 2023, with its accompanying music video filmed in the Sterling Hill Mine in Odgensburg, New Jersey.[13]

Musical Style[edit]

Plush musical style has often been described as hard rock and alternative metal.[1],[14] The group has stated influences including acts such as Evanescense, Halestorm, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Kiss among their inspirations.[15]
