Pocket Tactics (website)
Pocket Tactics is a website specialising in mobile gaming and Nintendo Switch coverage. Pocket Tactics covers games on all major mobile formats, including Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch, as well as reviewing hardware including mobile handsets, gaming headsets, docking stations, and portable devices such as Steam Deck and the Razer Edge 5G. The site is currently owned and operated by Network N Media, and has several sister sites, including PCGamesN, Custom PC, The Loadout, Wargamer, Gear Nuke, and The Digital Fix.
History
Pocket Tactics was launched in 2012. It was subsequently acquired – alongside tabletop gaming website Wargamer – by the Slitherine Group of companies in 2015.[1] Both sites were subsequently bought by Network N, along with Strategy Gamer, in February 2018.[2]
From 2018 to March 2020, Joe Robinson was editor in chief of Pocket Tactics (and also Wargamer and Strategy Gamer), and the site's coverage expanded to include more general mobile gaming. The site was relaunched in March 2020 with a fresh design and a new team, headed up by editor Glen Fox.[3][4] In November 2021 Ruby Spiers-Unwin became the site's editor,[5] and Switch coverage was subsequently added. Spiers-Unwin delivered a talk about the trends and future of mobile gaming at the Campaign Mobile Gaming Summit in 2021.[6] As of June 2023 Pocket Tactics is the biggest mobile gaming site in the world according to Similarweb comparison data.[7]
Content
Pocket Tactics initially focused its coverage on mobile strategy and tactics games. Since its 2020 relaunch, the site has broadened its coverage to include more general mobile gaming as well as Nintendo Switch games and hardware.[8] Pocket Tactics is Metacritic approved, with over 700 reviews from the site currently listed and an average review score of 74.[9] The brand is also an established curator on Steam having partnered with Valve to provide a content feed on its distribution platform.[10]
Awards
Pocket Tactics was shortlisted for Media Brand of the Year in the 2023 MCV/Develop Awards.[11] The site was also shortlisted for Coverage Platform of the Year in the Mobies Awards.[12] [13]
