Polachirackal Tharakan family
The Polachirackal family (Malayalam: പോളച്ചിറക്കല്) is a St. Thomas Christian family based in Mavelikkara, in the Indian state of Kerala.[1] Their tharavad was bestowed the hereditary honorific title 'Tharakan of Mavelikkara' (Malayalam: മാവേലിക്കര തരകന്)[2] by Maharaja Marthanda Varma, of the erstwhile Kingdom of Travancore.[3] Cherian Polachirackal, a General-Secretary of Kerala Congress (M) was the former Municipal Chairman of Tiruvalla.[4] Bishop Zachariah Mar Athanasios (born as Cherian Polachirackal) the third Bishop of Tiruvalla, was a descendant of this family[5] Another notable descendant is Mavelikkara Kocheeppan Tharakan, who was a prominent Malayalam literary critic, dramatist and novelist.[6][7]
