Vitumbiko Chisoni, (born 11 October 2002) and better known by his stage name Pop Young is a Malawian Afro Pop musician born and raised in the northern city of Malawi, Mzuzu.[1] [2]
Music
Pop Young came to the spotlight when he signed a management deal with Akometsi Creative Media and released his first video, Mesa, which was later followed by another video, Collect, shot in Tanzania.[3] [4][5]
After releasing his third video of Sole in April 2023, Pop Young caused a language debate in Malawi, with some people blaming the artist for singing in a language said to be for the minority, while others stood with the artist claiming good music goes beyond language.[6]
Achievements
Apart from Mesa, Collect and Sole, Pop Young also has other songs such as Story, Night and Day and Comfort, which he featured Malawi's born, South Africa based musician Gemini Major, and became number one on Boomplay's top searched songs.[7] In 2023, Pop Young was among the artists that performed at Malawi Cultural Day in Tanzania, organized by the Malawi High Commission in Tanzania.[8]
