Porsche 934 Turbo RSR
The Tamiya Porsche 934 Turbo RSR model car was the first R/C (radio-control) car kit released by Japanese manufacturer Tamiya Corporation. Initially released on December 04, 1976, this iconic and highly detailed kit has become a point of focus for many dedicated Tamiya fans.
The R/C chassis (Part No. 58001)[1] used in the kit was covered by a plastic body that took after the Porsche 934. Just like many other Japanese plastic-models, the kit came with various other parts (body parts, tires, replica engine, etc.) that were necessary to achieve the level of detail and quality that Tamiya was known for. The kits were initially produced in White, and were later produced in Green and Red. Since production ended in 1980, good condition full kits have been sold upwards of $3000 (USD).
Black Porsche (Limited Edition)[edit]
After 100,000 kits were sold, a limited edition "Black Porsche"[2] was released around early December, 1977[3]. This special kit featured a majority of the same parts as the original version, with the differences being in the colour, the included manual and minor differences in the chassis and body. The limited edition kit used Black anodized aluminum plates for the chassis as opposed to the regular aluminum plates from the original, a Mabuchi RS-380 motor, and a Black plastic body with Black body parts. No spare parts were ever released for these special kits.
Since this was a limited edition version, the kits did not have any kit numbers attached and were not distributed through regular means. Due to the fact that Tamiya Corporation is a private company, they have never released official production numbers for any of their products including the "Black Porsche".
