Port Central
Port Central is a shopping mall in Port Macquarie, a city in New South Wales, Australia. It is located on Horton and Hay Streets in the city centre. It has two levels and roughly over 100 shops and two car parks (parking lots).
History
Port Central was created in the 1990s as a place to house large shops. The mall was named Port Central after the colloquial ‘Port’ (refers to the city name) and ‘Central’ as many shopping centres on the Mid North Coast have central in their name, such as Coffs Central in Coffs Harbour and (later built) Kempsey Central in Kempsey and Taree Central in Taree. It was an addition to Settlement City which already existed in the city. It became accessible to wheelchairs with later expansion, adding escalators and lifts.
Transportation Access
It is accessible by automobile and by some public transport such as Uber, taxis and coaches. It is also accessible by walking, biking and by ferry (walking required).
Ferry
A ferry to Settlement Point has been established to allow travel over long distances (like Hastings River Drive). The suburb has over 500 inhabitants, a boat shed, a café, a playground, a campground and a ferry to the North Shore.
