Porto Business School (PBS) is a business school of the University of Porto. The school’s campus is located in Matosinhos, within the Porto Metropolitan Area.
Porto Business School was established in 1988 to foster collaboration between academic institutions and the Portuguese business sector. Its offerings include MBA programs, postgraduate courses, executive education, and customized training.
Internationally accredited by AMBA, AACSB, EFMD, and the Business Graduates Association, PBS is among the group of business schools with the triple crown. In 2025, its Global Online MBA was ranked the 8th best in the world by the Financial Times, being the only Portuguese program included in that ranking.[1]
On November 25, 2018, it was awarded the title of Honorary Member of the Portuguese Order of Merit.[2]
History
Porto Business School has its roots in over 35 years of experience in advanced executive education. It was created as ISEE – Instituto Superior de Estudos Empresariais (Higher Institute of Business Studies) in 1988, as an initiative of the University of Porto in partnership with a group of Portuguese and multinational companies. The school was founded in response to the need for advanced training in management and leadership, bringing academia closer to the Portuguese business sector.[3]
In 2000, ISEE became EGP – Escola de Gestão do Porto (Porto School of Management), and in 2008 the name EGP-UPBS was adopted, in order to align with international business school standards. From 2010 onward, the institution has operated under its current name: Porto Business School.[3]

- Executive MBA:17-month program is delivered in both Portuguese and English.
- Global Online MBA: A fully online 17-month program in English
- International MBA: 11-15 month on campus programme in English. It includes international immersion weeks in cities like Osaka, Barcelona, Berlin, and New York.
Postgraduate Programs and Executive Masters[5]
PBS offers a range of postgraduate and executive master’s programs in areas such as General Management and Strategy, Management Control and Strategic Execution, and International Business.
Open Executive Programs[6]
Open Executive Programs are pre-structured programs in areas such as General Management and Strategy; People Management and Personal Development; Innovation and Digital Transformation; Marketing, Sales and Communication; Finance and Management Control; Operations and Projects and Sustainability.
Accreditations
Porto Business School holds the triple crown in the international accreditation of business schools: AMBA (Association of MBAs).[7], AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business)[8] and EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development - EQUIS)[9]. PBS is also accredited by the BGA (Business Graduates Association)[7]

- Financial Times European Business Schools Ranking 2024: Ranked 39th among European business schools.[10]
- Financial Times Online MBA Ranking 2025: Ranked 8th worldwide and 4th in Europe.[11]
Governance
Its governance model includes representatives from both the University of Porto and partner companies.[12] The current Dean of Porto Business School is Professor José Esteves.
