Post-Li battery

Post-Li batteries are energy storage and delivery technologies (i.e., electro-chemical energy storage) that employ ions (cations) other the Lithium as the active charge carrier in the electrolytes as well as in the electrodes (anode and cathode). Such ions include Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Zn2+, and Al3+. Their use is motivated by the deployment of energy storage systems the provide greater energy density, capacity, as well as lower costs, owing to their inherently greater mineral abundance. Post-Li batteries aim to potentially replace Li-ion or Lithium metal systems, leading to a "post-Li" era in electrochemical energy storage.
