PracticePanther, headquartered in Miami, Florida, provides cloud-based legal practice management software.[1][2] The platform offers features for time tracking, billing, case management, calendaring, trust accounting, and document management.[3]
Features[edit]
PracticePanther enables lawyers and legal professionals to manage client information, legal documents, and cases.[4] The software also includes features for workflow automation, tracking time, billing lifecycle, document templates, and client communication through a client portal.[5][6]
In September 2020, PracticePanther's parent company acquired Headnote, an online legal payment platform, leading to the introduction of PantherPayments.[7][8] In June 2021, PracticePanther introduced a native e-signature feature, allowing law firms to send and obtain signatures on documents within the platform.[9]
In November 2021, PracticePanther introduced a built-in two-way text messaging feature.[10] This allows lawyers to communicate with clients through text messages without sharing personal phone numbers.[11]
In February 2022, PracticePanther's parent company acquired TrustBooks to enhance the legal accounting features in its suite of products.[12]
History[edit]
In 2012, PracticePanther was founded in Miami, Florida by David Bitton and Ori Tamuz.[1] PracticePanther initially secured funding of $3.5 million through a private round in 2015.[13]
PracticePanther secured an investment from Alpine SG, LLC, a portfolio company of the private equity firm Alpine Investors, in 2018. Following the investment, PracticePanther merged with Bill4Time, another legal technology company acquired by Alpine SG in 2017, to form a unified legal tech business called ASG LegalTech in February 2019. Despite the merger under ASG LegalTech, PracticePanther maintained its status as an independent brand with its core functionalities and customer base intact.
In January 2021, PracticePanther’s parent company, ASG LegalTech, rebranded as Paradigm. Soumya Nettimi, who became PracticePanther's CEO in 2018, was appointed CEO of the newly formed ASG LegalTech. In October 2021, Paradigm, encompassing PracticePanther, Bill4Time, and other legal software products, was acquired by investment firm Francisco Partners in a deal valuing Paradigm at $400 million.
In November 2023, PracticePanther published its “2024 Small & Midsized Law Firm Report.” This report surveyed legal practitioners to analyze trends in the legal sector. It found that despite economic uncertainty, small and mid-sized law firms were optimistic about the future and were planning to increase or maintain their budgets in key areas, such as technology, marketing, and labor.
In 2024, PracticePanther launched an advertising campaign titled “Lawyers Should be Lawyering”. The campaign featured actor Rick Hoffman and was created in partnership with advertising agency Grey Midwest.
