Prairie State Legal Services (PSLS) is an Illinois not-for-profit corporation legal aid provider founded in May 1977.[1] It is located in Central and Northern Illinois and serves low-income citizens, Veterans, and people over sixty years old.[2][3][4] Its current director is Denise Conklin. [5][6]
Prairie State Legal Services has 11 offices that serve 36 counties in the state.[7][8] [9] These offices are located in Bloomington, Galesburg, Joliet, Kankakee, Ottawa, Peoria, Rockford, Waukegan, West Chicago, and Woodstock.[10]
Services
Prairie State Legal Services provides a range of civil legal services. It assists with Housing, Employment, Family Law, Public Benefits, Tax, Reentry, and Healthcare Issues.[11][12][13][14][15][16] The organization's primary purpose is to provide free legal assistance to those who live at or below the poverty level and cannot afford to hire a lawyer when confronted with a legal problem.[17]
