President's Star Charity
The President's Star Charity is an annual fundraising concert organised by Mediacorp, in support of the annual President's Challenge. Running since year 1994, it is the longest running charity show in Singapore. The show usually features an ensemble of both local and international talents, as well as collaborative performances with persons with disabilities.
In 2020 and 2021, the President's Star Charity raised over $10 million in donations for the President's Challenge[1][2].
History
The 1st President's Star Charity was initiated by President Ong Teng Cheong in 1994[3][4][5], in collaboration with Mediacorp (then Television Corporation of Singapore). It was incepted to raise funds and public awareness for local charitable and non-profit organisations, as well as promote artistic talent. In 2000, President S R Nathan consolidated the various charity events under a single umbrella of the President's Challenge, while the President's Star Charity continued as a Mediacorp-led concert in support of the consolidated donation drive[6].
The show is typically filmed in front of a live studio audience and televised through Channel 5.
In 2020 and 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the show did not have a live studio audience.
Past performers at the President's Star Charity include Stephanie Sun, Zoe Tay, Taufik Batisah, Callum Scott, Eric Chou and Ellie Goulding[7][8][9][10][11].
