Prevotella lacticifex is a species of obligately anaerobic bacteria in the family Prevotellaceae and genus Prevotella. It was originally isolated from the rumen of Holstein cows and formally described as a novel species in 2022.[1] The species name lacticifex means "maker of lactic acid".[2]
Description
Cells of P. lacticifex are Gram-stain-negative, non-motile rods. The species is obligately anaerobic.[1] Growth occurs at 30–42 °C, with optimum growth at 37–40 °C.[1] When grown with glucose, reported fermentation products include succinate, lactate, malate, acetate, and formate.[1] The draft genome of the type strain is approximately 4.19 Mb and has a DNA G+C content of 49.5 mol%.[1]
