Princess Annie-Laurie "Ala" von Auersperg[1] (Munich, 1958) is an American fashion designer. She is the daughter of socialite Sunny von Bülow and Prince Alfred von Auersperg, as well as the sister of Prince Alexander-Georg von Auersperg and half-brother of Cosima von Bülow.

Early life and education[edit]

Annie-Laurie von Auersperg was born in Munich in 1958 to Sunny von Bülow (1932–2008) and Prince Alfred von Auersperg (d. 1992), of the House of Auersperg. She has one brother, Prince Alexander-Georg von Auersperg, and one half-sister, Cosima von Bülow. Her parents divorced in 1965 and his mother remarried Claus von Bülow in 1966. His father died in 1992 after lingering in an irreversible coma following a car accident in 1983.

Family[edit]

Her maternal grandfather was George Crawford, former chairman of Columbia Gas & Electric Company.[2] Her paternal grandparents were Prince Alois von Auersperg and Countess Henrietta Larisch von Möennich, from a distinguished but impoverished Austrian noble family.[3] Her great-grandfather, Robert Warmack, was a founder and the chairman of the International Shoe Company.[4]

von Auersperg attended Barnard College.[4]

Career[edit]

Her mother's mysterious coma inspired von Auersperg to set up the National Center for Victims of Crime, a nonprofit dedicated to strengthening the rights of violent crime survivors within the justice system, as well as the Brain Trauma Foundation.[1] She also started a career in fashion and launched her own eponymous fashion brand with designer Antonio Gaul and COO Larry Black in 2015.[5][6][7]

Personal life[edit]

von Auersperg was married to Franz Ernst Kneissl, an heir to the Kneissl ski company fortune, before divorcing.[8] The couple had two daughters.[1]

In 1989, von Auersperg married Ralph Isham, an investment banker who is the son of former U.S. Ambassador to Haiti and Doubleday publisher Heyward Isham.[9] Her brother-in-law, Chris Isham, is an investigative journalist and former bureau chief of CBS News' Washington, D.C. office.[10] The couple lives in Bridgehampton, New York and Mill Reef Club, Antigua and has one son.[1]
