Privacy Vaults Online, Inc., d/b/a PRIVO is a privacy compliance technology company based in Dumfries, Virginia. PRIVO is a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) certified COPPA Safe Harbor.[1].
History[edit]
PRIVO was co-founded in 2001 by Denise G. Tayloe[2]. In August 2004, PRIVO was approved for and became a Safe Harbor organization for the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)[1]. In 2005, PRIVO created PrivoLock™, a software that provides online methods to verify identity and give parental consent to children accessing online services[3]. In 2013, PRIVO was granted $3.2m from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC) Pilot Grant program, a White House initiative[4]. In 2021, PRIVO acquired Rocket21, R21 Solutions LLC[5] and proxicached[6].
Services[edit]
PRIVO offers an identity and consent management platform which includes account creation & registration, identity verification, sliding scale parental consent, single sign on, account management, and a permission portal for parents[7]. The permission portal allows parents to read the privacy practices of applications and websites that use PRIVO's solutions and give or deny consent to sharing their children's data[8].
PRIVO helps companies comply with Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and student digital privacy laws such as Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA), and Student Online Personal Information Protection Act (SOPIPA)[9].

In 2020, PRIVO won "Best Children's Online Safety Solutions Provider 2020" by Corporate Vision Magazine's small business awards[12]
In 2020, PRIVO won "Best Family-Focused Identity Management Solution" by New World Report Software and Technology Awards[13]
