Priyank Sharma (born 7 September 1985) is a Design Leader who was most recently leading the Design Function at Koo India. Before Koo, Priyank was with MX Player/MX TakaTak, where he led a strong 50-member design team across Product, Graphics and Games. He’s credited for the successes of Hotstar, MX Player and MX TakaTak – some of the biggest products to come out of India.

Early Life[edit]

Priyank Sharma grew up in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. His father is an accountant, and his mother is a homemaker. Raised in Chembur, Priyank completed his Class X at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School and completed Class XII from Guru Nanak Khalsa College of Arts, Science & Commerce.

He was passionate about design from a very early age and often pursued freelance stints while at school and at college. He briefly considered a career in architecture at the Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Architecture in Navi Mumbai; however, he soon felt disinterested and felt the whole process of architectural design off-putting. Due to a lack of digital design courses at that time, he decided to pursue graduation and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from SunRise University.

Sharma joined Hotstar as a Senior Designer in November 2014, where he designed the product across a diverse array of platforms, such as Android, iOS, Web, Roku, Apple TV and Fire TV; it helped pave the way for many other OTT platforms in India which began springing up. Owing to the success of the product, Sharma eventually became the Head of Design in 2016, and subsequently headed the product and graphic design teams responsible for most of the company’s significant feature releases.

MX Player[edit]

Sharma was formally recruited to MX Player as a Global Head of Design in April 2018. His first major assignment was regarded as a breakthrough for MX Player when it moved from only being a video player to a full-fledged OTT platform. He overlooked the design teams in India and China.
