Production association

Production association (P/A, PA) – was a government legal entity during the last decades of the Soviet Union. It was comprised of other companies such as factories, scientific research institutes, planning and construction, or any other companies that are somehow business-related with each other. A production association works on a socialist self-financing, self-reliant principle. Itself, it was a legal entity that was founded by the government while other companies that comprised it were not considered separate legal entities. A production association could be state-owned, cooperative-owned or a mix of both.

History

Production associations were first being founded in Lviv (Ukrainian SSR), later in Moscow, Leningrad. In 1976 these associations made 24% of all manufactured production within Soviet Union.
