Professor VVO Mkhize
Bhedlindaba Velaphi Victor Mkhize is a South African philologist, spiritual healer, public speaker and newspaper columnist. He is the founder and the President of [1]Umsamo African Institute, and also [2]South African Healers association. He is married to Nomzamo and has four children.
Early life
Professor VVO Mkhize was born in 1956, at Glebelands in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal province. Primary Education He completed primary school education at Glebelands, Encwadini, St Gertrude Mission. On completion of his primary education in 1970, High School Education He enrolled for High School education at Mpande Secondary School where he obtained his Junior Secondary Certificate. He further enrolled for High school education at Vukuzakhe High and completed Matriculation Certificate in 1972.
Academic Background
In 1977 he registered for a Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) in [3]University of Zululand majoring in Linguistics and Social Science and completed it in 1979. In 1980, he again registered for a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree which he completed in 1981. In 1989, he registered for a Master of Arts degree at [4]University of Natal, now University of KwaZulu-Natal. He further registered for a Doctor of Philosophy degree which he completed in 1992. Other degree qualifications include a Master of Business Administration ([5]Hull University, United Kingdom).
Work life
He worked as a teacher at Vukuzakhe High School, after which he joined the media industry where he worked for [6]Ukhozi FM (previously known as Radio Zulu). A large radio station which broadcasts in isiZulu. The station’s original Head Office is based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal province, South Africa. He worked for various public and private sector entities as executive manager, namely, [7]Nissan South Africa, 1993, [8]Human Sciences Research Council in 1995, [9]National Housing Finance Corporation, [10]Transnet (previously known as Spoornet). Between 1986 and 1990 he lectured at University of Durban Westville as a part-time lecturer. In 2000 he left work life and pursued his own business interests and founded Digicom Information Solutions. Because of his African spiritual calling, he went for spiritual training/initiation and founded Umsamo Institute (Isigodlo SaseMlambomunye). The main objective of the institute is to heal those who suffer or are troubled by African spiritual calling, Amadlozi (a Zulu term for ancestors). The Institute is situated in Shallowdrift Farms, 20km from Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.
Publications
He has contracted with [11]Isolezwe, [12]Ilanga National Newspaper (as a columnist). He is hosted once a week by Ukhozi FM on the show Ingono Yomsamo. He is also consulted by other newspapers, TV, and radio personalities on matters of African spirituality & healing. He has written many books on African spiritual spirituality.
