Project Kingfisher (History Project)
Project Kingfisher is an Australian War History project. Founded in August 2020, by James Albert Atkinson, Project Kingfisher follows the stories of the lost WWII Army Soldiers, Pilots, and Workers. The project kingfisher website states:
"The Derbyl Yerrigan (Swan River) is an ancient waterway that is indelibly connected to local custodians and their descendants in ways that are often hard to comprehend for the contemporary observer. The river and surrounds are deeply connected to Noongar culture, and we intend to always pay our respects to the traditional custodians of this land, their elders, descendants, and the leaders who are emerging.
We are a bunch of folks (from all walks of life) keen to uncover the recent history of the Swan River and protect and preserve it as a living treasure."[1]
Current Undertakings
As of now, Project Kingfisher is focused on a lost WWII plane, the OS2U Kingfisher, which was operated by pilot William (Bill) Beck and radio operator Leroy Carrier, which crashed on the 12th September, 1943.
