Project Suraksha, is Our Youth Social Community's (OYSC) project[1] on menstruation and menstrual products.[2] Board members of OYSC introduced Suraksha in 2021 in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, to a college student gathering.[3]

About[edit]

Project Suraksha, as the 2% of Indian girls who drop out of school each year because of a scarcity of menstrual products.[4] The majority of Indians view menstruation as taboo,[5] and because there are not many biodegradable sanitary pads available in the market, OYSC launched Suraksha to provide approximately 3 lakh pads to girls in India each month based on their own production for free.[6] OYSC launched a sanitary napkin that is made of corn starch, plant-based pulp, and biopolymers.[7]

Sanitary napkins, which contain harmful materials like plastic, dioxin, polymers, fragrances, and other products, are causing UTIs, pregnancy problems, reproductive problems, and other issues in women.[8] Sanitary napkins harm the environment since they are composed of plastic and are used once and then discarded.[9]

Project Suraksha at TedX[edit]

OYSC's board member, Sohan Pappu has given a TEDx talk about Suraksha[10]
