Projects Abroad
Projects Abroad is a global for-profit volunteer organisation. It matches volunteers to opportunities.[1] The UK company was founded by Peter Slowe and incorporated in 1990[2]; it operates in over 20 countries based in Africa, Asia, Europe, the South Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Volunteers have the option to work in Childcare, Conservation, Building, Teaching, and Sports Coaching Projects. Interns with the organisation can choose between Medicine & Healthcare, Journalism, Business, Law & Human Rights, Veterinary Medicine & Animal Care, Micro-finance and Social Work placements.
As of January 2018, the organisation began to minimise their work with orphanages,[3] and focus on a community-based approach.[4] In 2019, the company won silver at the British Youth Travel Awards[5] and was nominated[6] as a finalist for the WYSE Travel Confederation Outstanding Volunteer Project.
