History[edit]
Prospect Tower was designed by the Milwaukee-based architectural firm Eschweiler & Eschweiler on behalf of developer Jospeh Zilber. Construction was announced in 1963 and completed in September 1964.[2] Prospect Tower is one of several large apartment buildings constructed on Prospect Avenue between 1950 and 1990. Among them Landmark on the Lake, The Newport, Diamond Tower (Milwaukee) and 1522 On the Lake. The building was purchased in 2006 by Katz Properties.[3] A renovation of the pool area was completed in 2015 under the design of Johnson Schmaling Architects.[4]
Design[edit]
Prospect Tower is a 23-story, high-rise apartment building that features half-elliptical bays set between heavy concrete piers giving it a unique geometry. The building is of a concrete frame structure with inset windows and dark brown glazed brick. On the main (northwest) elevation these elliptical elements extend to the point that they serve as balconies.[5] The building contains 204 apartments, a pool, a workout room, an enclosed parking garage and a two-story main lobby. Apartments facing the east and west frontages of the building have balconies. The building is set on a bluff that overlooks McKinley Park and Lake Michigan.
