Protect our Province Alberta (PopAlberta) is a non-partisan grassroots coalition of volunteer physicians, scientists and citizen advocates formed in late July 2021 [1], after Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH), Dr. Deena Hinshaw, announced the cancellation of all COVID safety measures, including basic communicable disease prevention measures like testing, contact tracing and isolation for those who are infected. Through a series of daily protests in Edmonton, Calgary, and multiple cities in Alberta, they successfully compelled the CMOH to reverse the decision to cease Test/Trace/Isolate interventions for the protection of public health.

Starting in August 2021, a regular panel of doctors and experts have volunteered their time without sponsorship to bring timely, evidence-based updates and to take questions on the COVID-19 crisis in Alberta[2]. The group remains extremely concerned about the province’s abandonment of other critical mitigation approaches aside from vaccination[3].

Members include Dr. Tehseen Ladha (Paediatrics and Public Health), Dr. Leyla Asadi and Dr. Ilan Schwartz (Infectious Disease), Dr. Neeja Bakshi (Internal Medicine/COVID frontline Physician), Dr. Chuck Wurster (ER), Dr. Joe Vipond (ER), Dr. Gosia Gasperowicz (modelling) and Conor Ruzycki (PhD candidate in aerosol science), Michelle Brandenburg, Albert Nobbs (Alberta Activist Collective), Sandra Azocar (Friends of Medicare), Dr. Wing Li (Support Our Students AB) and many more specialists and collaborators.
