Provably fairness is a technology-based algorithm that can be analyzed and tested for fairness.[1] Provably fair technology is used mainly in online cryptocurrency-based gambling.[2] The main purpose of this technology is to ensure that online casinos do not cheat their customers.
The provable fairness algorithm appeared a few years after the launch of Bitcoin, a digital and global money system cryptocurrency. But at the time, the phrase "provably fair" was not yet in use. In 2011, this term was mentioned for the first time.[3]
The Provably Fair algorithm in its work uses 3 main parameters:[3][4]
- Server Seed
- Client Seed
- Nonce
This method consists in the fact that the players receive a certain key string. This key can be used to check the results through a special algorithm. The hash code will be encrypted in it. The Provably Fair algorithm allows players to use this code to get a certain result. If checking the code gives the same result as the game round, it means that the game is working without errors.[5][1]
It is possible to check the game results in real time with this technology. It uses three kinds of technologies: Random Number Generators, Seed Generators and Hashing.[6] Random number generation is a process that uses a device to generate a sequence of numbers or characters. The sequence can only be predicted on the basis of chance.[7][8][9] Seed generators generate numbers that affect the results of algorithms. Hashing is the process of changing a longer string of data into a shorter one.[2]
