History
In 2019, two comedians from SBS, Lee yong ju and Kim min soo, and one comedian from KBS, Jung jae hyung, created a channel and started to upload comedy videos, satirising ordinary undergraduate students’ lives in South Korea.
After a few months, they started a candid-comedy show about the topic of refugees from North Korea. This comedy show was expanded into Punggye-Leeminchul TV, one of the series on this channel.[3]
From 2020, they planned reality comedy shows with other members from comedy YouTube channels, and then created reality comedy show series, “One-love climbing club”, “05 entry is back”, “Ronnie and Steve”, “B(Un) face to face meeting”, and etc. The channel not only developed these series, but also connected them to create one comedy universe. [4]
From April 2021, this channel was noticed by global society after Lee yong ju and Jung jae hyung sang a few songs, Justin Bieber’s “peaches” and BTS’s “Butter”, with their cast in the One Love Climbing Club.[5]
Comedy Series
Psick University has ten comedy show series. Each comedy show series satirises ordinary South Koreans’ behaviours in various ages and circumstances.[6]
Comedians from other YouTube channels, Lee chang ho and Kim hae jun, also participate in these comedy series.[7]
One-love Mountaineering Club
One-love Mountaineering Club, satirises the behaviours of five 50-60 year old men, and is one of the most popular series on this channel. This series deals with friendship and conflict, and the interests between the four men: Kim young nam, Bae yong gil, Jung gwang yong, and Lee taek jo.
Kim young nam (actor: Kim min soo) is the chairman of this club and manager of 5th Cycle Stores. He comes from Ulsan, Kyeong-sang province. He considers enthusiasm to be the most important thing in life. He yells “Passion” three times before climbing the mountain. He does many things very progressively and obstinately, and sometimes undergoes conflict with other members caused by his enthusiasm.
Lee taek jo (actor: Lee chang ho) is the vice chairman of this club and a co-op of Yeongdeungpo shopkeepers. He has only served as vice chairman in his life, and therefore has ambition to be chairman. He is ambivalent towards the current chairman, Kim young nam.
Bae yong gil (actor: Lee yong ju) is the owner of an LP Bar. He lived in Los Angeles for 22 years, so he has a more liberal mind than other members. He has been married seven times in his life. He is one of the arbitrators of the One-love Climbing Club with Jeong gwang yong.
Jeong gwang yong (actor: Jung jae hyung) is a physics teacher at Paichai high school.
