Psyfix are a Belgian Rock and Metal band formed in Mechelen, Belgium by Chiel Tondeleir..[1] While the first steps into music industry of Psyfix started in 2013 as a solo artist, it's only in 2025 they broke through, after Tondeleir decided to change the entire setup and create a full band. As pioneers in Hybrid Metal[2], Psyfix released their first album Unchained in january 2025.[3]

History

Early years (2013-2015)

Psyfix was founded by Chiel Tondeleir, experimenting with Techno and Drum and bass. As a solo artist creating his music with FL Studio he made instrumental music such as the songs 'Rewind','Emotions', 'Down under' and 'Hidden within'. As the result of a breakup, Tondeleir decided to use the artist name Psyfix, as music was his way to move forward, his psychological fix.

Dormant period (2016-2023)

Realising his music was not high enough quality, Tondeleir decided not to pursue his goals in the music industry and focussed on other aspects of his life. It's during this period that he met Rutger Peuteman, who at that moment was drummer for Belgian Metal band Kevlar. While visiting the band on a concert, Peuteman introduced Tondeleir to Yannick Reynders, vocalist and guitar player of Kevlar.

Revival (2024-2025)

After a hard period where he went through another breakup, followed by the death of his best friend, Tondeleir reached back to an old hobby, Poetry. After several poems, written in Dutch, he decided to rewrite these poems in English and turn them into song lyrics. As a big Linkin Park fan, a band that meant a lot to him during his teenage years, Tondeleir turned these lyrics into metal songs.

It's only when Tondeleir got back in contact with his old friends Peuteman and Reynders that the idea of a new setup of Psyfix became real. The duo heard Tondeleir's samples and immediately felt the spark. Quickly after, Bart Box joined the band as bass guitar player, and Reynders introduced Sofie Jacobs as lead vocalist for the band. When Quentin Plaetevoet joined Psyfix shortly after as guitar player, the band was officially formed.[4]

Breakthrough (2025-...)

Reworking Tondeleir's numbers, they released their first singles Failure Of The System[5], Alive[6] and All Hope's Lost[7] and their debut album Unchained. Aiming for 2026, Psyfix suddenly had an unexpected hype[8] happening in 2025 gaining the band over 20.000 worldwide followers on youtube in just 3 months time[9], without even having done a single concert yet. Their fame spread over South America (mainly Brazil, Venezuela, Chili and Mexico)[10], USA[11][12], Europe (mainly Belgium and Portugal)[13] all the way to Asia (mainly Israel, Philippines and Indonesia)[14].

Despite this unexpected success, the band continued their original goal to aim for 2026, in order to bring quality performances. This early succes however resulted in the band taking part in Belgium's music contest Sound Track for which they are still participating for the win at the time of writing.[15]

History

Musical style and influences

Psyfix is a pioneer in Hybrid Metal, combining elements of Alternative Metal, Nu Metal, Symphonic Metal, Metalcore and Rock.

Whereas the first version of Unchained made by Tondeleir was more heavily focussed on symphonic metal, and only 3 songs including more heavy elements such as fry screams, it was Yannick Reynders introducing a heavier sound to Psyfix.

Chiel Tondeleir, Psyfix's manager and early songwriter has said he's heavily influenced by Linkin Park, however many fans also compare Psyfix with other famous bands such as Evanescence, Within Temptation or Amaranthe[16]
