The COVID-19 Pandemic Campaign Medal (abbreviated C-19PCM) recognizes all United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps officers who served on active duty between March 1, 2020 and December 21, 2020 supporting the United States COVID-19 pandemic response. Service officers may only receive only one award, regardless of the number of tours participated in.[1]
This medal is classified as a Presidential Unit Citation, which is awarded by the President of the United States to a group of service officers "for accomplishments and achievements deemed to be of the highest level and importance, in national or international arenas, to protecting, promoting, and advancing the health and safety of the citizens of the United States of America."[2] Guidelines state that the Surgeon General may issue the C-19PCM to civilians who have supported the USPHSCC response for 30 consecutive days or 60 non-consecutive days.
Servicemembers of the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps have served on the front lines of combatting the COVID-19 pandemic. Duties have included facilitating the delivery of the treatment medicine, remdesivir to COVID-19 patients and assisting the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency with traveler screenings.[3]
