Puma Watch North Wales
Puma Watch North Wales is a Nonprofit organization which records and catalogues alleged sightings of big cats in North Wales and the surrounding regions. Members of the public who believe they have encountered a non-native cat are encouraged to report sightings via an open form. [1] Submissions are published on the organisation's website, along with any provided images or video footage.
History
Puma Watch North Wales claims to have been founded by "concerned landowners" for the purpose of "raising awareness". The organisation's social media profiles date back to August 2017, with the website launching in October 2020.
In February 2021, Conservative MS Darren Millar made a statement in the Senedd in which he called for the Welsh Government to investigate recent sightings of big cats recorded by Puma Watch in his Clwyd West constituency. Requesting an "urgent statement" from the Government's Rural Affairs Minister, he called the sightings "a real worry" and called for action "before someone is hurt or worse." [2] Mr Millar later repeated this request on his own website. [3]
In May 2021, an interactive map of sightings reported to Puma Watch was launched on their website and received some media attention. [4]
