Early Life and Education
Puneet Gupta was born on May 6, 1989, in Bathinda, Punjab, India, to Mr. Vijay Kumar, a cloth merchant, and Mrs. Prabha Rani, a retired bank manager at Punjab & Sind Bank.[4] He completed his primary and secondary education at St. Xavier's High School in Bathinda from 1993 to 2005, followed by higher secondary education at S.S.D. Senior Secondary Public School, Bathinda, focusing on non-medical subjects. Gupta earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics & Electrical Communication Engineering from PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh, graduating in 2011.[5][6]
Career
After completing his engineering degree, Gupta worked as a software developer at companies like Philips and Nomura Services.[7] In 2015, he co-founded CodeYeti, a mobile app development startup, which later pivoted to become Astrotalk.[8]
Launch of Astrotalk
The idea for Astrotalk originated from a personal experience. Despite his initial skepticism towards astrology, Gupta consulted an astrologer during a difficult period in his career. The astrologer's predictions about his future proved accurate, prompting him to explore astrology as a business opportunity. In 2017, he launched Astrotalk, a platform designed to connect users with verified astrologers for online consultations.[9][10]
Early Challenges
During its initial phase, Astrotalk faced challenges in attracting users and building credibility. The platform relied on a commission-based revenue model, ensuring astrologers were compensated while users could access verified services. Gupta focused on technological advancements and strict onboarding procedures for astrologers to enhance trust among customers.[11]
Astrotalk grew rapidly, reaching over 15,000 astrologers and 40 million users worldwide by 2024.[12]
In 2024, Astrotalk secured $20 million in Series A funding from Left Lane Capital, a New York-based venture capital firm, to support its global expansion into the United States, Canada, the UK, and the Middle East.[13][14]
Recognition
Astrotalk is considered one of the largest astrology platforms globally.[15]
In 2023, Gupta pledged ₹100 crore in rewards to Astrotalk users if India won the Cricket World Cup, emphasizing his commitment to customer engagement.[16]
Personal Life
Puneet Gupta is married to Deepika, who is also involved in Astrotalk’s management. They married in 2021 in a private ceremony.[17]
