Punta Trettu (Sardinia)
Punta Trettu is a place located in the southwest of Sardinia, in Italy, in the municipality of San Giovanni Suergiu, exactly in front of the island of Sant'Antioco. Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia, is about 90 kilometers away. Matzaccara is the nearest inhabited center even if, for the most important services, the closest town are San Giovanni Suergiu and Sant'Antioco.
Origin of the name Punta Trettu[edit]
Punta Trettu is a strip of land surrounded by the sea that point straight (Punta Trettu) to the town of Sant'Antioco.
Area of Punta Trettu[edit]
The area of Punta Trettu, located on the sea level, has a sandy soil.
The sea area of Punta Tretty is almost completely surrounded by the mainland but, even if it is considered like a lagoon, the sea water is current. The sea has a bottom of sand mixed with soil and gravel. The water is very shallow almost everywhere (in many places does not exceed 20 - 30 cm).
The area of Punta Trettu is very exposed to the winds of Scirocco and Mistral.
Economy of Punta Trettu[edit]
The characteristics of Punta Trettu have made it, in the past, an ideal place for fishing and for fish farming, activities that are still partially present.
Currently, with the birth of kiteboarding, a sailing sport in exponential growth, part of the economy of Punta Trettu is focused on this sport. In fact, Punta Trettu, a windy place with a sea shallow water, is considered a perfect spot for Kitesurfing, one of the best kite spots of Sardinia. For this reason, many tourists go to Punta Trettu for kitesurfing throughout the year.
Thanks to this new economy, they have been born in Punta Trettu new companies focused on kitesurfing.
In Punta Trettu there is also a small tourist harbor, even if it is not currently an integral part of the economy.
