Punyalata Chakraborty

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Punyalata Chakraborty, পুণ্যলতা চক্রবর্তী, (1888-1974) is the second daughter of Upendrakishore Raychaudhury. She has written stories and articles that were mostly published in *Sandesh*. Her memoir of her childhood "Chhelebelar Dinguli" (ছেলেবেলার দিনগুলি) is a highly readable account of life in the Raybari in early twentieth century. Her other writings have been collected in two anthologies "Chhotto Chhotto Galpa" (ছোট্ট ছোট্ট গল্প) and "Rajbari O Ananya Lekha" (রাজবাড়ি ও অন্যান্য লেখা).

When Satyajit Ray, Upendrakishore's grandson and her nephew, relaunched *Sandesh*, Punyalata started to write again. In 1963, when the management of the magazine was transferred to a non-profit literary Co-operative Society, Sukumar Sahitya Samavaya Samity Ltd., she became one of the first shareholders. In late 1964, when the *Sandesh* magazine faced a financial crisis, Punyalata offered *Sandesh* rent-free accommodation at her own house.
